How the Australia standard-drinks calculation works
First, calculate pure alcohol in grams: container count × volume in ml × ABV as a decimal × 0.789. Then divide that total by 10, because one Australian standard drink contains 10 grams of pure alcohol.
Why product categories are not enough
Beer, wine, cider, spirits, hard seltzer, and premixed drinks can vary in ABV and container size. Use the actual product label rather than assuming that every can, glass, or bottle is one standard drink.
