How UK alcohol units are calculated
UK units are calculated as container count × volume in ml × ABV, divided by 1,000. One UK unit represents 10 ml, or about 8 g, of pure alcohol. For example, one 568 ml pint at 4% ABV is about 2.3 units.
Why use the actual product label?
Beer, cider, wine, spirits, and ready-to-drink products vary in both size and ABV. Enter the values printed on the product instead of relying on a generic category. For examples, see standard drinks in beer, standard drinks in a bottle of wine, and standard drinks in spirits and shots.
Alcohol units do not measure BAC or impairment. Do not use a result to decide whether to drive, cycle, operate equipment, or make a medical or legal decision.
